Rockwave Music Festival is a 4-day rock music festival held in Malakasa, Greece held every June/July. Founded in 1995, Rockwave is one of the biggest music festivals in Greece and since 2004, has settled in TerraVibe Park after years of switching venue.
2013's line-up featured performances from Lana Del Rey, The Subways and Echo & The Bunnymen.
For a primarily rock-based festival, Rockwave features plenty of more mainstream popular acts, such as Moby in 2004 and Oasis in 2000. That said, the audience is mostly made up of metal lovers, so the atmosphere is said to be less accessible to non-metal fans than its line up may suggest in certain years.
History & Facts
Rockwave was founded in 1995 and had its first event in '96, which featured an undeniably metal-leaning line up, with performances from Slayer, Violent Femmes and Iggy Pop. Up until 2004, Rockwave didn't have a permanent venue and over the years, has taken place in Dock 3 of the Piraeus, the Rizoupoli Stadium, Freattyda in Piraeus, Agios Kosmas in Athens, Tritsis Park in Ilion, Athens and the Athens Olympic Velodrome, until settling in the TerraVibe Park, an event park located in Attica, a few miles outside Athens.
