Mawazine (which translates to "Rhythms") is a festival of world music that takes place annually in the Moroccan capital of Rabat. Acts featured on the line-up mix Arab and International music icons.

To many in the country, the festival is important in promoting a positive and tolerent image of Morocco. Although met with controversy with politicians claiming the event encourages immoral behaviour, the festival has gone from strength to strength.

Artists on this years line-up include Mariah Carey, LMFAO, Jimmy Cliff, Lenny Kravitz, Karima Skali, Marwan Khoury, Babel, Aziz Sahamoui & University Of Gnaoua and many more.

Past line-up highlights

2008: Whitney Houston, Juanes, Goran Bregovic, George Benson, Hoba Hoba Spirit, Tony Allen and Issac Delgado. 2009: Ennio Morricone, Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, K'naan, Hoba Hoba Spirit, Cheb Khaled, Najwa Karam, Warda Al-Jazairia, Ali Campbell (formerly of UB40), and Johnny Clegg of White Zulu. Other musical acts to feature include Mali's Amadou & Mariam, Cuban musician Eliades Ochoa, The Joubran Trio, three brothers from Palestine, and Iranian ensemble Eshtiaq.

2010 Elton John, BB King, Julio Iglesias, Sting, Mika, Harry Connick Jr., Thievery Corporation, Al Jarreau, Deolinda, Angélique Kidjo and Carlos Santana. The festival also brought famous Arab singers such as Najwa Karam, Tamer Hosny, Elissa, Wael Jassar, Majida El Roumi, Myriam Fares, Rami Ayach. 2011 Kanye West, Sugababes, Shakira, Yusuf Islam, Quincy Jones, Joe Cocker and Lionel Richie


Music genre wish the festival is not self limiting, inviting artists from every reaches of globe from India to Macedonia.
