Hopscotch Music Festival is an annual 3-day music festival held in Raleigh, North Carolina every September. Founded in 2010 by Independent Weekly, a local alternative newspaper, Hopscotch music festival is now owned by Carolina Independent Publications and hosts local, international and continental acts with an emphasis on variety.
2013's line-up features performances from Kurt Vile & The Violators, Big Boi and The Breeders.
Hopscotch is most famous for having line-ups defying one-genre categorisation - as a result, it's difficult to pin down one atmosphere beyond 'inclusive' or 'diverse', but general consensus and anecdotal evidence suggests that the regular crowd are energetic and enthusiastic, meaning the festival's vibe is more frenzied than relaxed.
As a festival, it seems to particularly appeal to local residents, because 35% of acts performing hail from the immediate North Carolina area.
