Holy Ship! is a festival in a category all of its own. The premise is simple: a three day festival on a luxury liner. The festival/ship departs from Miami and goes to the Bahamas, stopping at several islands, and returns. Parties featuring DJs are held both on-board the ship, and on the islands. The ship, the MSC Diva, is a brand new luxury liner and includes a disco, restaurants, a spa, a pool, and a casino.
Organiser's book big electronic dance music acts every year, so the music is not just a gimmick, it plays a central part in the festival.
The tickets, while being reasonably priced for what it includes, are comparitevely expensive compared to other festival holidays, making Holy Ship! somewhat of an exclusive holiday. Festival goers take their party seriously, and from when you step on board, you will be going hard until the end. As can be expected when putting a large quantity of 20-something men and women together with copious amounts of alcohol and loud music is a confined space, the atmosphere can be quite promiscuous.
This year's line up will include dub-step arch-wizard Skrillex, probably the biggest populariser of the genre, category defying DJ Diplo, known for his forays into everything from House, to Hip Hop and Dancehall, as well as club shredding DJ duo Duck Sauce, author's of the infectiously catchy single: Barbara Streisand. Holding a festival in a cruise liner offers the advantage of all the amenities (including a spa) that come with a luxury cruise, and none of the dirt, mud, and lack on air conditioning that comes with an outdoors festival. As previously mentioned there is a casino complete with roulette, slot machines, blackjack, Caribbean poker and bingo. On previous cruises activities included card tournaments, twister, yoga classes, and scavenger hunts.
On days two and three of the cruise, the ship will stop in a private island in the Bahamas, where passengers can disembark to swim, dance, and party on the lush tropical beach.
Tickets start at $549 per person for a bunk in a quad cabin, and go up to $1,499 a person for a double suite with a balcony. There is a wide range of cabins, so check the official site to find what is right for you.
