The Falls Festival (also known as The Falls Music & Arts Festival) is a New Year's Eve music festival that takes place in two separate Australian locations.

Lasting for four days from 28th December to 1st January, each location run the festival simultaneously, swapping the line-ups over different days.

Lineup

The 2013/2014 lineup included !!! (CHK CHK CHK), MGMT, The Roots, The Wombats, Grizzly Bear, Johnny Marr, London Grammar, and more.

Vibe

New Years Eve is many people’s big party highlight of the year, especially in Australia where the snow is swapped for sun. This makes for a crowd of party makers and music lovers coming together in a beautiful sunny setting.

The festival is traditionally of the blues & roots genre, but also includes rock, hip hop and electronic music.

Stages and other entertainment

As well as music on the three stages you can enjoy yoga sessions, samba classes and circus workshops, puppetry, burlesque and comedy in The Village, watch films, perform on the people's stage as well as taking part in the Falls Fiesta or Art Camp.

Every year there is also an opening party, with a strict dress code and theme.

All tickets include FREE CAMPING. Two day tickets are $193 + b/f, three day tickets are $226 plus b/f. Limited Gimme Shelter tickets are also available and include tent and sleeping mat.

Children

The festival recommends the 2 day Falls Sabine Fields ticket for Lorne and the 3 day full festival ticket for Marion Bay. Marion Bay has a dedicated Family Campground.

In the south the weather can be unpredicable, but over the festival period the weather is traditionally hot during the day and brisk at nigth with the mountain air.

Local Information

MARION BAY

Tasmania is one of those bucket list destinations with so many cool things to see and do: MONA, Cradle Mountain, Taste Festival, Mount Wellington, Bay of Fires and so much more.

Travel

If you are travelling to Lorne the nearest airport is Melbourne once there, you can take the train to Geelongwhich is only a short bus ride to Lorne. Road trips to Lorne are popular, so why not enjoy the scenery and the open road.

Getting to Tasmania for the Marion Bay part of the festival is slightly harder unless you live on the island. You can fly into Hobart from airports all around the world. Or catch the boat from Melbourne. Spirit of Tasmania, it's the best boat you'll ever ride.If you're adventurous, find a carpool and drive. Your car will fit on the boat.If you're really adventurous, catch a bus. They run all the way to the festival.

Competition

Follow the Falls Festival Twitter account @fallsofficial, reply to trivia tweets with the correct answer and include the hashtag #FallsTrivia for extra points. Each week or fortnight there’ll be an über cool prize up for grabs which will be announced before playing commences

Trivia

Falls Festival began in 1993 at Lorne in Victoria, with the Marion Bay venue being added in 2003.

Past lineups

The 2012/2013 headliners include The Flaming Lips, Angus Stone, The Hives, Bombay Bicycle Club, Djangp Django, Hot Chip, Maximo Park, SBTRKT (live), The Vaccines and many more.

The theme of this year's opening part is jungle-afro-funk to a cosmic-disco-soundtrack!

The following artists are to appear at the "Boogie Nights" celebration: Anna Lumb & Dj Lazer Ferrari, Chris Gill & Mohair Slim (L), Dj Manchild & Russ Dewbury (M), Furnace & The Fundamentals (L), Legs Akimbo, Muscles (L), The Bamboos (L) (Mp), The Cuban Brothers.

2012/2011 included Aloe Blacc, Arctic Monkeys, Beirut, Crystal Castles, CSS, Easy Star All Stars, Fleet Foxes, Grouplove, Metronomy, Miles Kane, Scratch Perverts, The Kooks, The Naked & Famous and Young MC

2010/2011 highlights included Interpol, Public Enemy, Klaxons, Tame Impala, The Rapture, Ladyhawke, Cold War Kids, Hot Hot Heat, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.
