Common Ground Music Festival is an annual week long music festival held in Lansing, Michigan every July. Founded in 2000, audience numbers peaked in 2003 at 87,000.

2013's line-up featured performances from Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five and MGMT.


Common Ground Music Festival has quite an extensive online community and it's well-known for its inclusive atmosphere - Given that it takes place over a whole week long period, the atmosphere changes daily, depending on the dominant genre and attendees of a particular day.

It takes place at an intimate outdoor venue, giving it an overall friendly and relaxed vibe.

History & Facts

From its inception in 2000, Common Ground Festival has comprised an eclectic mix of classic rock, alternative, country, RnB, pop and hip hop. It also champions local talent, and combines international headliners with independent regional acts.

It takes place along the banks of the Grand River in Adado Riverfront Park and is the biggest outdoor musical event in the mid-Michigan area.

It also features the following: -Silent Disco -Architects of Air -The Color Run -A Free Matinee Show, featuring local teenage bands

Tickets & Travel

Common Ground single-day early bird tickets cost between $29 and $30, and in advance, cost £35. Early bird 7-day passes cost $79, and $89, in advance.

Discounted tickets are available to members of the 'Common Crew', the Common Ground fan club - Sign-up is completed online.

Common Ground offers VIP access to both single-day and 7-day festival ticket holders, but obtaining them requires holding 'VIP Uncommon Club' membership.

VIP entitles the ticket-holder to whole-festival access, exclusive access to a number of VIP tents, discounted beverages, complementary snacks and clean bathroom areas.


Children are welcome at Common Ground, and those under 10 may attend the festival for free, provided they are accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

Children must pay full price for a VIP ticket in order to access the exclusive VIP areas.

Disability Access

Common Ground Music Festival is easily accessible to disabled vendors, and features disabled toilet facilities, seating and parking. Common Ground also welcomes service animals.

What to Wear

Common Ground takes place during the peak of summer, and is an outdoor event, so it's recommended that attendees dress lightly, and bring plenty of sunscreen.


Common Ground Music Festival does not currently offer camping.

Site Information

Common Ground is held along the banks of the Grand River in Adado Riverfront Park. Food and Drink purchased outside the festival is not permitted inside, but there are numerous food and drink vendors located within the confines of the festival.

Furthermore, non-professional and cell phone cameras are permitted inside the festival, but other kinds are not.

ATM machines are located at the Information Booths near each entrance. Other local ATMs are located: Inside the Lansing Center at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Larch Street Inside Lansing City Market on City Market Drive just off Cedar and next to Lansing Center Quality Dairy at the corner of Saginaw and Larch The Bank at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Washington

Local Accommodation

It is strongly recommended that you book accommodation as soon as possible - as there is no campsite, hotels around the area get booked out well in advance of the event. Common Ground festival runs two partnerships with local hotels, offering discounted rates to ticket-holders. They are as follows:
