Weather and climate at Burning Man

While it is unique where Burning Man is set, the weather and climate of the festival have their own personalities, we recommend bearing in mind the following facts:

  • Daytime temperatures can reach and pass 100F/37C with humidity changing from low to high.
  • Make sure you have enough sun tan lotion and lipbalm and other beauty products should contain SPF for sun protection.
  • Even if it's not a really hot day, you must wear suntan lotion, as the 4,000 feet height above sea level means you are at risk of higher sun exposure
  • Don't be surprised if you feel a bit odd on the first day of the festival, as it can take anyone not used to it a day or so to get used to climate.
  • Always have water on you and drink it regularly.
  • Dehydration can cause all kinds of problems so if using alcohol and other substances, be sure to increase your water intake.
  • In the event of illness, bare in mind Medical staff are always available.
  • Don't forget to bring a shade structure for your plot.
  • Remember to bring warm clothes to camp in, as the day time can be hot but the nighttime can be very cold.
  • The playa can experience sudden fierce storm bouts so be sure everything is secure and safe.
  • Be sure to bring a battery powered radio and tune into BMIR 94.5 FM for updates
  • In the event of rain, remain where you are, don't drive and carry your bike if you have one.
