Europe offers a host of excellent summer festivals for people looking for a little more adventure (and sunshine) than the typical trip to a British field. There are now so many European festivals on offer that it can be difficult to work out the best option for your precious summer break.

WikiFestivals has put together our top three suggestions below, to make your choice a little easier!

Open’er Festival, Poland, 1st-4th July

Open’er is a fairly new European festival but has already developed a cult following for its eclectic music selection, wild crowds and cheap drinks. This year the line-up features A$AP Rocky, Alt-J, Drake, Die Atwood. Mumford and Sons and St Vincent.. names that should keep all of your mates happy!

Open’er also features stages and performances put together by theatres, museums and artists, adding a non-musical dimension to the festival. Altogether you’ll find more than you bargained for at Open’er. Bag a ticket.

Rock en Seine, France, August 28-30

If you want to stay in a beautiful city and experience all the excitement of a first class festival, consider Rock en Seine, in Paris, France. If you want to, you can still camp out (in the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud), or choose to stay somewhere with brick walls and hot showers! The choice is yours.

This year’s line-up includes: The Libertines, Kasbian, Offspring, The Chemical Brothers and Marina & The Diamonds. The crowd is perhaps slightly more mature than at other European festivals and the drinks are expensive, but at Rock en Seine you certainly get what you pay for.

Melt, Germany - 17th-19th July

Modern Germany is synonymous with cool, modern music, and you can expect lots of this at Melt! This renowned musical experience offers patrons debauchery and decadence in a beautiful setting with a mix of electronic, mainstream, indie and subculture bands and DJ’s.

Melt started out as a small festival for ravers and techno heads in 1997. The line-up now features a wide range of artists and this year includes: Cashmere Cat, Hudson Mohawke, Kylie, London Grammer and Jamie T.
