Wave-Gotik-Treffen is an annual festival which celebrates gothic and dark music, culture and arts. Held in Leipzig, Germany, the festival books 150+ bands across several venues in the city of Whitsuntide.

There were over 225 artist confirmed for this year's event, you can check out the full line-up here.
Taking place over 4 days, there are up to 18,000 to 20,000 attendants, who come from the Goth, Steampunk, Cybergoth and Rivethead communities.

Aside from the live music, there are also large fairs and stalls with medieval, gothic and cultural merchandise.

History and facts
The first try at this festival was Treffen in 1987, however laws of the German Democratic Republic made that type of event illegal.
Under the re-unification of Germany in 1992, the first official Wave-Gotik-Trefen took place, with the numbers increasing ever since.
Depending on where you are coming from, it's worth googling "German Embassy" to double check what documentation you need to bring with you.

In regards to alcohol, whether you are drinking on site or a local bar or resturant sometimes you will be charge a €1 deposit or Pfand for the drink you are consuming. You get this back when returning the cup, or you can keep it as a souvenir/
