2012 Highlights

Join the Shamabala Fancy Dress Carnival, discover surreal art installations, beautiful soundscapes, live theater and huge scale AV installations through the night. Join in the SHAMBOLYMPICS and celebrate this year’s theme… CELEBRATION, while over the bridges find healers waiting to massage and pamper fun-fatigued limbs. You can lounge around in hot tubs sipping cocktails or swim in the lake amongst giant lotus flowers, or you can or visit one of the six bespoke bars on site, offering over 50 local ales, not to mention some of the finest cuisine from around the world. Dance in a Caribbean disco hotspot, visit The Wonky Cock and try your hand at Blingo, or find the new Debating Chamber.

And if all that was not enough, don’t miss the legendary grand finale with the infamous Pirate Technics. Be prepared for large-scale fire shows, performance and fireworks set against a stunning backdrop of tree-lined lakes.

Vibe

Shambala is a truly special place where you play, revitalize, and return to the world fuelled-up on the beauty of being alive. It is also a multi-award-winning green festival placed at the center of green initiatives for live music events.

Set across four days on the August Bank Holiday Weekend, the variety and quality of entertainment on offer is staggering for a festival of its size. With over 200 diverse musical acts across 12 live stages, world-class cabaret, an amazing array of over 200 programmed workshops, stand-up comedy, inspirational talks and debates, jaw dropping circus and acrobatics, interactive theater and nationally acclaimed poetry all housed in beautifully decorated venues.

Stages and other entertainment

A total of 200 music acts are expected to appear over 12 live stages, as well as cabaret, 200 programmed workshops, comedy, talks and debates, circus and acrobats, interactive theatre, poetry and much more.

Don't forget there's plenty to keep the little ones entertained too! With one of the largest kids areas on the festival circuit, family-friendly camping, toddlers tent and baby bathing, there won't be tears before bedtime!

  • The full price for an adult weekend ticket is £119.
  • Teen (aged 15/16/17yrs) weekend ticket £79

  • Child and Teen tickets may only be purchased with adult tickets. Maximum of 3 teen tickets per adult over 21yrs.

Travel

Although the location may remain a secret until tickets have been purchased, it is public information that there is an eco-friendly and thigh-toning way to arrive: Guided Cycle Routes From 10 Cities to Shambala! Confirmed starting locations are; Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, London, Sheffield, Lechdale, Middleton Cheney, Stoke and Coventry.

Then you would set off with your guide, your luggage being carried by a support vehicle, and all your overnight accommodation (i.e. a campsite) pre-booked. Each ride takes approximately 30 people, and is suitable for all ages. Rides last between 1-3 days, depending on the start and finish location.

By Coach?

You can get a return coach from Bristol, Brighton, London, Birmigham, and Sheffield. Prices fall between £10-£20 return, and you can book when buying tickets.

All coaches pick up at 9.00 AM for a 10.00 departure. Be warned - if you miss the coach, Shambala Festival UK will not provide refunds.

All coaches leave the site on Monday 29th of August, departure times to later be confirmed.

If you're planning to travel by train, then be sure to take advantage of the free biofuel shuttle bus from the local train station (Market Harborough), on roughly an hourly basis.

By Car?

From Birmingham it is only 45 miles, taking approximately 47 minutes.

From Bristol it's 120 miles, taking approximately 2 hours.

From London it is 80 miles, taking approximately 2 hours.

From Sheffield it is 95 miles, taking approximately 1.5 hours.

Camping

If you are planning on staying in a tent for this festival, then there is a large area of flat camping ground - away from the main hustle and bustle and accompanied with compost loos and showers. Please be aware of the noise curfew that is in place after midnight.

The Vehicle Camping Field is designed for vehicles converted for living in- not just a car. Please note, if you are attending this festival as a group with more than one vehicle (and would like to be near to each other) then you should arrive together as vehicles are sited on arrival. You are allowed to have one small tent and/or an awning with each van. Toilets, showers and a chemical toilet waste deposit point are provided.

Want more than just a tent? The option is there to try sleeping under natural canvas on a sheepskin rug. The Tipi and Yurt village have an on-call reception team to help you settle in and deal with any queries you may have throughout the festival.

Food and drink

Due to the secrecy of the location, it's hard to provide any details on local food and drink providers. However, the Shambala Festival UK website assures it's readers that there are shops and bars onsite, as well as the promise of international foods being provided.

Often you will find bespoke bars on site offering plenty of local ale and a mixture of cuisine.

Trivia

The word Shambala relates back to Tibetan Buddhists, thought to be a "mystical kingdom", hidden within Himalayan lands. In this kingdom all inhabitants are enlightened, and it is this air of relaxation, community and sustainability that the Shambala Festival UK is based upon. All of which is experienced alongside a diverse selection of music and other performances.
