Melt! Festival is the ultimate "Electronic Meets Rock" festival that takes place in Germany. It's original run was from 1997-2002, but since it's return in 2004 it has gone from strength to strength. Held in the giant industrial museum Ferropolis, the event spreads over 6 floors, and has a line-up of over 80 live acts over the weekend.

Rumours

The 2013 dates have been confirmed as 19th - 21st July, with tickets already on sale on the official website.

Lineup

2013: Atoms For Peace, Alt-J, Azealia Banks, Julio Bashmore, Chvrches, Django Django, Disclosure, The Knife, Everything Everything and many more.

Vibe

Reviews have described the event as cheerful and elevated, and when temperatures are high, many take advantage of the nearby fresh water lake.

This a very busy party festival, where camp-sites are usually packed but friendly, and although the attendance is mainly German, the festival has vast gained a European popularity, with attendance climbing from 2,000 to 16,000 in it's first decade.

Location

The festival is helf in Ferropolis, Grafenhainichen, Germany. An appealing open-air museum of machinery from the 20th Century, with many reaching 30 metres high, and some weighing up to 1980 tonnes.

Camping

Everybody has to pay a €5 deposit, on arrival you will be handed a garbage bag, which if returned with rubbish will earn your deposit back.

Parking is included in your camping ticket, and there is an area for campers and caravans however it is strictly prohibited to pitch tents there.

To have a shower or use a water closet you must pay €1.50/€0.50 whereas of course the portable loos are free!

Site Information

Opening Times:Doors open at 3pm every day, with the music starting around 5pm, and continuing throughout the night.

Garbage deposit: Handed out with wristbands are garbage bags and deposit chips, When a full garbage bag and the chip is returned, attendees received their €5 garbage deposit back. This scheme has proved successful in engaging revellers in keeping the festival site clean and environmentally friendly.

Volunteer positions always fill up really fast so we would advice investigating this as soon as preparations for the next event begin. Volunteer positions for 2013 have already been filled.
