Launched in 1991 by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza began as a touring festival, travelling all over the USA.
The festival was originally started as a farewell show for the band, when organising it Perry Farrell was influenced by Gathering Of The Tribes Music Festival (a two day music festival organized by The Cult's Ian Astbury in 1990).
The Gathering Of The Tribes Festival was seen as a highly influential event as it mixed all genres of music from Rap to Metal, which has inspired the Lollapalooza line-up ever since.

- Lollapalooza ISRAEL (August 20-22 2013) / For 2013, the first ever large scale international music festival in Isreal will be held by Lollapalooza. The event will take place in Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park, with an expected 50 shows of leading singers and bands from all over the world in 3 days.

The 2011 USA Lollapalooza featured Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, My Morning Jacket, Deadmau5, Cold War Kids, A Perfect Circle, Cee Lo, Bright Eyes and City and Colour.
Location and travel
Grant Park in downtown Chicago is the annual host of Lollapalooza. There's a Main Entrance to Lolla at Michigan & Congress, in addition to the North Entrance at Columbus & Monroe.
The Chicago Transit Authority has train and bus routes to Grant Park, throughout the city and to both major airports, while Metra's commuter rail is the best way to travel in from the suburbs.
Convenient and security patrolled 24-hour parking is available directly beneath Grant Park in four underground garages as well as Soldier Field's North Garage.
Camping and other accommodation
As the festival takes place in Grant Park in downtown Chicago there is no camping on site. However there are hostels and hotels in the area.
Music stages and other entertainment
As well as a huge eight stages of music there is the Dell Lounge where you can chill out and even watch the live music on a video stream, in another lounge you can watch footage from Lollapalooza's 20 year history, go and play video games at the Playstation loft, check out Google+ at their loung, try out new Sony products, meet the bands, take place in music workshops and more.
Food and drink
There are two 'Chow Towns' at opposite ends of the festival, featuring food from the best restaurants in Chicago. Including Burgers, Pizza, Mexican, Indian and loads more there really is something for all tastes. .

History & facts
In 2012, the USA event was temporarily halted due to a serious storm, with attendees ask to leave and find temporary shelter, the festival continued once the storm had passed, with a revised schedule.
