Big Day Out is an annual festival tour held in several cities in Australia and New Zealand. For one day between January and February, Auckland, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth play host to a mixed genre music from around the world.
Rumours
Organises have confirmed there will be no large second update, but possibly a few surprise announcements along the way.
Lineup
2013 Acts confirmed so far include: Red Hot Chili Peppers (Only Australian Shows), The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, The Bloody Beetroots (Live) and many more. The full line can be viewed here

CHOW TOWN:
With renegade Porteno/Bodega boys Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz as the 'Culinary Outlaw' ambassadors for Chow Town, you can expect food that is music to your mouth. Ben and Elvis are gathering some of Australia's headlining and award winning chefs to create signature, hand held dishes for Chow Town.

LUCHA VA VOOM:
Mexican masked wrestlers with skilled stripteasers displaying aerial acts, pogo-sticks and hula hopping in between fights!
MTY WORLD STAGE:
MTV Australia has announced the production of a special edition of MTV WORLD STAGE at Sydney's Big Day Out on January 18, marking the first time an installment of the network's global live music series has been produced in Australia.
MTV WORLD STAGE is MTV's weekly, global live music series seen in over a half-billion households worldwide. Recorded "live" at the most exclusive gigs, world renowned music festivals and unique concert locations from around the world, MTV WORLD STAGE is the "front row seat" for music lovers to experience the biggest artists without leaving the comfort of their sofas.
Live performances from of some of the biggest acts appearing at Big Day Out will be showcased during the two one hour specials of MTV WORLD STAGE allowing music lovers from around the world the opportunity to experience Australia's most iconic contemporary music festival. Local and international premiere dates, additional on-air and online content, on the ground activities and other details of MTV's activity at Big Day Out will be announced shortly.

Vibe
Many reviews have described Big Day Out as 'happy' and 'colourful', with a line-up that caters for various music genres, Big Day Out has become a multi-age mixed background event.

Depending on the venue, Big Day Out can have between 6-8 stages.
Tickets

General admission tickets cost $165, for $265 you can purchase the "Like A Boss" ticket which includes the following:
- Dedicated show entry gate with all day pass outs
- Entry to the Boss Oasis and Cocktail lounge
- Free Coat Check, lockers and phone charging stations
- Executive Climate Controlled Toilets
- Shaded Lounge & Much More
- Must be 18 and over
Due to overwhelming demand Big Day Out is introducing P.O.T.T. or Pay Over Time Ticketing. Starting immediately and ending on September 23 you can pay for your Big Day Out ticket (GA and Like A Boss) in 4 instalments, with the final instalment happening just in time for the christmas stocking.
The option to pay via P.O.T.T expires on Midnight September 23rd. More details can be found on the festivals official website.

As it is a one day event for each city, this is not a camping event, yet there should be several hotels and hostels you can stay at in the local vicinity.
Site Information
Important safety announcements:
In between each act on the main stage will be a recorded message, detailing important information regarding crowd safety issues, with the occasional live request made in special circumstances.
Food and drink
Food is available to buy onsite, however you are allowed to bring your own food onto the site, as long as it is a reasonable amount.
You are also allowed to bring an unopened bottle of water onsite, but no glass bottles will be allowed.
Perform at the festival

We've teamed up with our pals at the Sound Alliance to give Australia's finest undiscovered DJ talent the opportunity to play the Red Bull No Noise Nightclub in each city of the BDO 2013 tour.
To be in with a chance of scoring yourself a coveted place on the bill you need to compile a 15 minute mix spanning at least three genres. Then it's as easy as uploading your mix to Soundcloud and submitting the URL along with your tracklisting. There's absolutely no genre barriers for this comp, so be as creative as you can to grab our attention. Rock, house, indie, dubstep, polka (?!), electro, metal (\m/); anything goes just so long as it's fun and creates a party vibe!

Drugs and security
Big Day Out has become infamous for drug use at the festival, due to controversies at past events. (refer to History and fact for details on these stories).
Because of this reputation there is a strong presence of police, with sniffer dogs not only at the entrances of each venue, but also patrolling the grounds.

When BDO begun in 1992, it was originally a Sydney-show, with a line-up featuring Nirvana, with the then recent release of Nirvana's legendary 'Nevermind', their fame guaranteed success for the Festival
