Celebrated worldwide as one of the most interesting spots for creativity, innovation, originality, uniqueness and authenticity – not least because of its pioneering mix of music industry, festivals and club events – Berlin sets a matchless international standard

2013 Highlights

Berlin Music Week mixes the Conference & Business Platform 'WORD!' and live entertainment part 'SOUND!', taking place at venues across the city.

WORD! Conference & Business Platform

On 5 and 6 September the Berlin Music Week invites all players and stakeholders in the Berlin music industry to the Postbahnhof to exchange ideas and experiences with colleagues and visitors from Germany and abroad.

The conference programme will primarily focus on the areas of 'Technology And Music' and 'Recorded Music'. Music technology in Berlin will be a central topic.

An important part of WORD! is the conference of the VUT Indie Days, organised by the German Association of Independent Record Companies. In close coordination and interlinked with the rest of the conference programme, the perspective of small and medium-sized music enterprises will be presented. The content of the Berlin Music Week WORD! is being developed by newthinking, all2gethernow and the VUT. Various additional stakeholders in the music and digital industry will be integrated into the programme through the Call for Participation.

First We Take Berlin

On 4th and 5th September the world’s ‘earliest’ showcase event will take place in Berlin’s melting pot, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. First We Take Berlin. On over ten stages more than 80 international and national acts with the potential for export will be presented to the public and the music industry.

On 6th and 7th September Berlin Festival and its late night daughters program Club X-BERG will wrap the week up with a real mother lode of music.

Moreover several other live events will take place, e.g. the New Music Award or 'Auf den Dächern'-Festival by and Spiegel online.

Location and travel

The Berlin Music Week will be nesting this September 4th - 8th in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. This hot and happening neighborhood centers around the Spree’s Osthafen (Eastern-harbor), which is not only an urban architectural wonderland but also a hotbed for music production and music related start-ups and tech. As a happy consequence, in this “kiez” some of the city's best clubs, pubs, and bars are very close to one another.
