The Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, commonly abbreviated to Benicassim or Benny, is a 4 day music festival that takes place on the east coast of Spain.
Benicassim as an area has been attracting tourists from all around the world for years, with its almost flawless beaches and clean water.
Rumours
2013 acts are in process of confirmation.
Lineup
2013: The Killers, Queens Of The Stone Age, Echo Lake, Swim Deep, Splashh, Palma Violets, Jake Bugg and Azealia Banks and many more.
Vibe
The crowd tends to be mostly British, with the odd local as well. As the majority of the crowd is on holiday, a real party vibe is created which is helped by everyone being mostly late teens to mid twenties.
Unlike many festivals the bands at Benicassim start at 6pm and perform until the early hours of the morning. Many Benny goers spend the hours before lazing at the beach before gathering to view the many exciting bands.
Those of you who prefer a more tamer and family friendly festival may want to avoid Benicassim, as the words "wild", "energetic" and "crazy" are often used by fans to describe their experience.
As the bands don't start till later, when you have done sleeping off your hangover, many choose to venture around the local area of Benicassim and have a look around.
A great festival for beach lovers and those who want to swap mud for sun and beaches. The festival is sometimes even referred to as “Glasto Del Sol”!

There are four music stages at Benicassim, one being an outside stage. The seaside city of Benicassim has a water park and a beautiful beach to relax. Bencassim also organises a dance show on the beach the night before the festival kicks off.

Travel
Benicassim town doesn’t actually have it’s own airstrip so you’ll have to fly in to one of the nearby major cities and then drive, get the train or taxi to Benicassim town.
By Air
Valencia Airport is the closest, and many choose to then get a train to Benicassim, which can roughly take an hour, other possible routes from aiports include Reus (1hr 40mins away by train), Barcelona (2hrs 30mins away), Alicante (2hrs 50mins away) or Madrid (4hrs 40mins away).
By Train
many recommend using RailEurope, you can just book a general return ticket, or many recommend getting an unlimited pass to explore the question.
By Car
Hiring a car to Benicassim is so much fun and really affordable for a group of friends, for those flying into Barcelona it’s around a 2/2.5 hours drive to the festival from the airport,
The route is a nice easy motorway drive which, with some great CD’s, is a really relaxing fun way to get to the festival; it is something I have done in previous years.
To drive from Valencia it is only about an hour and the route takes you all along the cost, north to the festival site.

Camping
There are three camping areas at Benicassim, BeniCamp, VillaCamp and CampFIB.
BeniCamp and CampFIB are included in the price of 4, 3 and 2 day pass tickets but VillaCamp is an extra 65 euros.
Trying to sleep in a tent full of people, in the middle of summer, in Spain, people may find that a little bit too hot to handle - there are hotels and apartments that can be rented close by to the festival for festival goers.
Site Information
The site takes place on a concrete arena about twenty minutes walk from the beach. There are unisex showers located all around the campsite, and there is tap water available all around the site.
Food and drink
There are plenty of food and drinks stalls located in the main arena and the surrounding town boasts many cafés and restaurants.
As with many coastal areas in the North East of Spain Paella is everywhere and a relatively cheap way to eat something healthy and filling. But beware, if you aren't a fish lover make sure you ask if there is a chicken version.
Can't decide what to eat? Go for a Pico. With a literal translation of mouth Pico places have food on a slice of bread with a topping held in place by a cocktail sticks. Supposedly a mouth full, some may need a bite. At the end of your eating the bartender will count your sticks and charge you for the total. A great way to fill up with a variety of local food stuffs.
Or the classic tapas if you want something between a Pico and a full meal.
