Apple Cart Festival

The Apple Cart Festival is a one day music, theatre and art event that takes place in London’s Victoria Park.

Organised by the same team behind Field Day, the event provides a fresh and innovative selection of music, comedy, art, cabaret as well plenty for children to do.

Due to the London 2012 Olympics, The Apple Cart will take place, over the Diamond Jubilee June Bank Holiday weekend at the earlier date of Sunday 3rd June (the day after Field Day)

Adam Ant, Billy Bragg, Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard, Kid Creole & The Coconuts and Noah & The Whale are amongst the first to be announced for Apple Cart 2012.

History and Facts

Practically a baby in the London Day Festival Scene, The Apple Cart Festival is a new bespoke festival, entertaining us with everything from Mercury Prize nominated or winning musicians to interactive art pieces, this festival has it all.

Music Stages and Other Entertainment

As well as the main musical entertainment, Apple Cart provides a lot of entertainment alongside with magic shows, cabaret and comedy acts keeping audiences amused.

There is also and art car boot fair, a real ale tent, food market and the candlelit matinee theatre.

Stages present at The Apple Cart Festival include and unspecified stage, a comedy stage, the cabaret stage, the music stage and one more where all the different acts perform.

There’s plenty for kids to enjoy too from the interactive Candlelit Matinee, the traditional village fete games, Monster Supplies and their Ministry of Stories to the Penguin books tent where they can see their favourite book characters come to life and enjoy readings by reknowned authors.

On Site Information

Cashpoints will be available inside the site. These machines will charge a small transaction fee.

At Apple Cart, they recycle all waste generated by the event, and are currently looking at other ways of reducing our impact on the environment, these ideas include having stewarded bike racks and a cup recycling scheme.

On site water is provided. Check the site maps for the whereabouts of taps. Sealed 1l plastic bottles of water are allowed to be brought on-site.

Food and Drink

Venn Street Market is a local street market from Clapham Common providing The Apple Cart with the most delicious foods you’ve ever tasted!

The Market will include a Hog Roast, Argentine Empanadas and Chipa Cheese dough balls, Creole Fish Cakes and Banana Fritters, baked artisan sweet and savoury pastries, cakes and other treats. Vegetarians and vegans will also be catered for. There will also be other catering stands.

Alcohol and drinks cannot be brought onto the site, with the exception of sealed plastic water bottles, maximum capacity 1 litre. Water will aslo be provided for free on site.

Camping and Other Accommodation

There is no camping at this event and no re-admittance if you leave the park.

There are many hotels around Victoria Park.

The Town Hall Hotel

At the higher end of the cost spectrum this is a luxury hotel set in the old town hall. With great reviews there are rooms ranging from £163 for a double room to £222.75 for a two bedroom suite (including tax)

The Oakwood at Bow Lane

These apartments start at £145 and are as close to Victoria park as you can get. With its great location and all the comforts of home they are perfect for groups or a family looking to enjoy events at Victoria Park.

Rivington Apartments

A surprisingly cheap alternative to the hotels in the area. With a range of apartments from a studio at £54 to a Deluxe Family Apartment at £144. The rooms look clean and modern with all reviews saying people were very happy with their stay.

Location and Travel

By Car

Victoria Park, Grove Road, Tower Hamlets, London E3 Victoria Park is located in Tower Hamlets, in the east end of London. There are no parking spaces at all in the immediate vicinity of Victoria Park, so it is advised not to bring your car, but use public transport to reach the venue instead.

By Train

The nearest Tube stations to Victoria Park are: Mile End (District and Central lines), Bow Road (District Line), Stratford (Jubilee Line), Bow Church (DLR) and Bethnal Green (Central line). The nearest Overground rail stations to Victoria Park are: Hackney Wick, Cambridge Heath and Bethnal Green.

By Bus

Bus Routes: 8, 309, 339, 388, D3, D6, S2 all pass close to the park.
