Described by the New York Times as putting “rock and rebellion squarely in the category of African-American music,” the Afropunk Festival has become a Brooklyn, NY intuition and the focal point for the burgeoning Afropunk movement.
Stages and other entertainment
In addition, the largest Street Skate and BMX showcase returns with the NikeBattle For the Streets Skate and BMX Competition. The event will feature the nation's best amateur skaters and BMX riders in a competition to be judged by top professionals in both sports.
The AFROPUNK SPIN THRIFT MARKET will feature OVER 80 LOCAL ARTIST AND ARTISANS offering fashion, crafts and art with a fresh alternative perspective. Come ready to support the DIY community at the hottest market of the summer.
"Because Revolution!" - The concept based on a poem by RIP MC will serve as the inspiration for the art mural at AFROPUNK Fest 2012. The mural will flank both sides of the stage and will extend 200 feet wide and 8 foot tall - giving the audience a wholesome experience of AFROPUNK!

Over the past seven years, the festival has presented new artists before they hit it big, such as Grammy-nominated Santigold, The Noisettes and Janelle Monae. Afro-punk mainstays like Saul Williams, The Dirtbombs, and Dallas Austin have also graced Afro-punk’s stages.
