I just thought I would ask, what are people's usual sources of rumours and how do you tend to act on them? I think too many predictions get out of hand and people start to believe them when they don't even know where they've come from! It's a bit like Chinese whispers really. I think it's great when people predict right but I think the line between educated guesses and genuine rumours has become hard to distinguish. I think when bands self confirm before a festival it is pretty cool, it's not a rumour but it's nice to know who is playing before it's officially announced. The festivals tend to get pretty annoyed by this though, it can have an effect on ticket sales and can ruin their intended build up to the festival. I don't know if magazines can get away with it, but when websites tell you who might be playing it can be quite a good source of rumours. Of course it depends on how trustworthy the site is, I would tend to believe some of the bigger music news sites, but not the smaller ones and definitely nothing that I hear on a forum!

As well do you tend to act on rumours? No matter where they've come from I still wouldn't be up for buying early bird tickets or anything like that, without having the festival line up announced properly. If a headliner had self confirmed early and I knew the festival usually had a good line up then I could probably stretch to buying a ticket, it's just too much of a risk otherwise! Having said that I do love listening to the rumours and imagining what the festival will be like if all these bands really do play it, it is definitely a good source of entertainment rather than information.
