BBC Introducing and AIF presents...Lil Simz
As part of our interview series Wikifestivals presents The Wiki 10, a set of questions answered by the exciting and fresh artists selected as part of a BBC and AIF initiative, which sees upcoming artists given the opportunity to not only play at the recently passed Hackney Weekend, but also at other large festivals in the UK calender!
First up, it's Lil Simz, who you can catch at this years Underage Festival on 31st August.
Those of us yet to hear your sound, how would you describe your music?
Rap, experimental, original, dynamic with elements of rock.
How was your experience on the BBC Introducing stage at Hackney Weekend?
Having the opportunity to perform on the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1 Hackney Weekend 2012 was amazing! That was one of my biggest gigs to date and I loved it!
I remember last year watching Rizzle Kicks headline the BBC Introducing stage and wanting the same opportunity and it all happened in the space of a year, A special thank you to the BBC and Rising Tide for all their support!
If you could headline any festival of your choice, which would you choose and why?
Aaah this is a hard one, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Underageand Glastonbury! It's 2 I know! Underage because it's the best Underage Festival! I represent young people who are trying to live out their dreams and the music is live!
Glastonbury because it has to be one of the best and biggest festivals of all time musically, the opportunity would just be out of this world!!!!
What was the first festival you ever attended?
LOVEBOX! I was blessed with the opportunity to perform when I attended which was a great experience!
How did you feel about your upcoming slot at Underage Festival? What do you think that people took away from your performace?
I am really pleased and excited to hear about being picked to perform at Underage Festival and can't wait to shut it down!!!!
People will take away with them from my performance a great introduction to my music which is something new to the scene, fresh, original in style and content, dynamic, full of energy, creative and ultimately a great experience.
Through music and my performance I always like to send out a positive message; not to let people get in your way, living life and living out your dreams, which is what I am doing and it feels great!
What are your plans for the rest of the year? Any releases or toursthat we can look forward to?
I am on the playlist for BBC Radio 1Xtra and my track is called 'We Came To Rock' Produced by Inflo 1st which again is an amazing opportunity for Artists like myself coming into the music industry.
I am really looking forward to performing at Underage and other festivals/shows. You can look forward to my EP and Mixtape which I am currently working on and is sounding very hot!
I am also looking forward to the opportunity of supporting a well known artist on their tour, all will be revealed....
Of the other 18 acts who had been chosen for this great AIF and BBC Introducing opportunity, who would you recommend and why?
I think all are amazing and congratulate every Artist who are talented and who have worked extremely hard to get here. The Artist who stands out for me and who I recommend has to be Shezar with an amazing soulful and powerful voice and compelling stage presence.
Random Impulse is another amazing Artist to look out for with his fusion of rap and rock music and those fast electric riffs are off the hook! These 2 Artists for me bring excitement and musical energy to the music scene.
Have you got any other festival appearances booked other than your Underage Festival performance?
I am due to perform at Hackney Carnival on 31st July 2012! Looking forward to that and also BT in the Park on 4th August 2012 alongside other shows so watch this space!!!!
What would be the ultimate piece of advice you could give to anyoneattending a festival for this first time this year?
Make sure you have the right footwear! Lots and lots of walking lol.
The main piece of advice is to soak up and enjoy the whole experience and atmosphere, this only happens once a year so get as much out of it as you possibly can!
Lastly, of all the festivals in the UK, which ones would you recommend that music fans check out and why?
Underage Festival of course! The talented Artists, live music and great people make Underage Festival the place to be so make sure your there!
